EAST RUTHERFORD—Pro football franchises the New York Giants and New York Jets filed suit on Thursday seeking to block further development of the American Dream retail and entertainment complex being developed by Triple Five of Edmonton, Canada.

"We have bent over backwards to try to accommodate this project because the governor has stated how important it is to him and to the state," says John Mara, co-owner of the Giants.

The teams argue that the complex's vehicle traffic would cause unbearable congestion for their fans and want the bulk of the American Dream complex shut down on the Sundays when they play at home. They are also looking to put a limit on the number of cars visiting the complex on those Sundays when games are taking place at MetLife Stadium, according to The Record.

Triple Five spokesman Alan Marcus counters, "We cannot interrupt service to our entertainment patrons at the time when they most want to visit."

Jets owner Woody Johnson says, "We probably wouldn't have built this stadium if we had known that they would build something across the street that would flood the roads with traffic and make it impossible for our fans to get to the game.” See story in the Wall Street Journal.
