MILWAUKEE—The unfinished Staybridge Suites Hotel on North Water Street could be the new home for students of the Milwaukee School of Engineering.
The school has an option to acquire the long vacant building, according to The Business Journal. The school intends to renovate the 14-story building and convert it into approximately 150 apartments for engineering students, graduate students and faculty of the Milwaukee School of Engineering. An anonymous donor is providing financing for the project. Hermann Viets, president of the Milwaukee School of Engineering, said the building could be ready for students by the fall of 2014.
The building, which was intended to be a 120-room hotel, was auctioned last year and sold for $12.4 million to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. and Square Mile Capital Management of New York City. See story in the Business Journal.
