CHICAGO-The troubled Block 37 mall is close to inking lease deals with a major movie theater operator, a fitness facility, a food court operator and a popular downtown restaurant.
The mall's ownership, CIM Group based in Los Angeles, is in negotiations with AMC Entertainment Holdings to open the first commercial movie theater in the Loop, according to the Chicago Tribune. CIM is also holding talks with XSport Fitness about opening a gym at the 275,373-square-foot mall located on State Street across from Macy's. Both the movie theater and gym would take space on the vacant fourth floor of the mall.
Sources tell the newspaper that CIM is close to a lease with an operator for a food court on the mall's third floor, and with the owners of the Gage, a downtown restaurant, who wants to open a restaurant at Dearborn and Randolph streets on the building's ground floor.
