NASHVILLE-Mayor Karl Dean says that he plans to shift focus from the east bank of the Cumberland river, where a new water themed play park is now in operation, to the struggling west bank.

The administration's primary focus is on city-owned parcels south of Broadway where it hopes to develop a combination of green space and perhaps an outdoor amphitheater, according to the Tennessean.

“We're going to continue to do work on the east side as well, but I think our focus is going to shift a little bit more to the west side this time because we've spent a lot of money on the east side,” Metro Finance Director Rich Riebeling says.

A west bank redevelopment initiative would come from $25 million in capital funds that Mayor Dean has proposed for riverfront work and open space acquisition. Mayor Dean's $300-million capital plan is scheduled to be acted upon by the Metro Council on Tuesday. See story in the Tennessean.
