EL CAJON, CA-Affirmed Housing Group plans to host a grand opening celebration today for Solterra, an affordable and sustainable residential development for seniors.

A housing community for persons 55 and over, Solterra offers 49 homes including 46, 1-bedroom and 3, 2-bedroom homes.  Located at 131 and 155 Chambers Street, Solterra's community amenities include on-site management, a computer lounge, gated and covered parking, and a community room.  As a mixed-use development, Solterra also boasts street-level commercial space with storefronts facing Chambers Street and Linda Way.

Sidewalks were widened to 12 feet on Chambers and 10 feet on Linda Way to be consistent with El Cajon's focus on creating a walkable community.

Solterra residents will also have exclusive access to a flex car.  Solterra's electric car, a 2013 Nissan LEAF, available to community residents, was on display during Solterra's Grand Opening for viewing.  James Silverwood, president & CEO of Affirmed, stated, “The electric car will allow residents to experience a car-free lifestyle, while still enjoying the occasional benefits of a private vehicle.  We believe that this flex car is one of Solterra's many elements that environmentally-aware seniors will appreciate.”

The event speakers were to include:

  • Bill Wells, Mayor Pro Tem, City of El Cajon

  • Bob McClellan, Councilmember, City of El Cajon

  • James Silverwood, President & CEO, Affirmed Housing Group

  • Alice Carr, Western Regional Manager, JP Morgan Chase

  • Bruce Solari, Executive Vice President, Solari Enterprises

Also invited were El Cajon Mayor Mark Lewis and city manager Doug Williford.  Solterra combines affordability with unique sustainable initiatives for environmentally-conscious seniors.
