ALBANY-The latest deal struck between Gov. Andrew Cuomo and a Native American tribe over gaming issues has substantially cut down the number of locations a casino could be built upstate if a Constitutional Amendment this November eventually approves full-fledged casino gaming here.
The agreement announced on Thursday between the state and the Seneca Nation of Indians ends a dispute over casino operations in western New York that net the state more than $400 million, according to the Wall Street Journal. The accord was the third in recent weeks between the state and a native American Indian tribe that grants exclusivity to the respective tribes on their gaming operations.
With those deals in place, only the Catskills, the Saratoga region and the Eastern Southern Tier would be eligible for new casino development under Gov. Cuomo's proposed casino legislation. See story in the Wall Street Journal.
