PASSAIC, NJ-Prime Healthcare has paid $5 million to extend its exclusivity rights to acquire St. Mary's Hospital here.

The California-based firm announced its intent to acquire the 264-bed acute care hospital here for $25 million seven months ago and has been awaiting approval from the state of New Jersey to finalize the deal. The added $5 million to the pot extends the exclusivity to acquire the hospital to the end of this year, according to the Star Ledger.

Prime is also waiting approval from the state to complete its acquisition of Saint Michael's Hospital in Newark and three hospitals in western New Jersey owned by Saint Clare's Health System. See story in the Star Ledger.
