WASHINGTON, DC-Google is relocating its Washington DC office to take 54,000 square feet at 25 Massachusetts Ave, NW in a long-term lease greater than ten years. The move from 1101 New York Ave. will be a significant expansion for the company, says Steve Grigg, president and CEO of Republic Properties Corp., which owns the building. "Google wanted a location for their Washington headquarters that provided a flexible functional base of operations for the next decade," he tells GlobeSt.com.
Another reason for the expanded investment, Grigg speculates, is the District's growing high-tech orientation.
The building, Republic Square I, is a nine-story, plus concourse level, Class-A office building totaling some 385,000 square feet of office space with additional retail space. Doug Mueller and Evan Behr of Jones Lang LaSalle represented Republic Properties Corporation and CBRE represented Google. It is currently 80% leased, Grigg says, with additional space available on partial floors.
