CARTERET, NJ-The Hampshire Companies has signed a long-term lease with FedEx Ground for its entire 232,000-square-foot industrial building at 200 Milik Street here.
Hampshire's principal Todd Anderson said in a release that his company was able to attract a “high-quality” tenant for the new facility, which was built speculatively and completed last spring, because it had anticipated a market uptick.
Hampshire did not identify the tenant, as per its legal agreement with FedEx. GlobeSt.com learned that FedEx was the tenant via another source.
“We anticipate a significant increase of activity at The Port of New York and New Jersey, as the expansion of the Panama Canal and the raising of the Bayonne Bridge will accommodate the new, larger Panamax container ships,” Anderson said.
Hampshire redeveloped the former site of Pathmark's corporate headquarters into a new logistics center, which is called PortSouth Milik.
Situated just off of the New Jersey Turnpike, a few miles south of Port Newark, the property faces Blair Road. Its design maximizes natural light and features energy-efficient light fixtures; the building is expected to receive LEED-certified rating from the U.S. Green Building Council.
Thomas Monahan of CBRE represented Morristown-based Hampshire in the lease transaction.
