ROCKVILLE, MD-The National Institutes of Health has inked a lease extension of 60,000 square feet that it occupies at the Shady Grove Life Sciences Center with Alexandria Real Estate Equities. The government agency will also be occupying an additional 75,000 square feet that Alexandria has delivered. Both lease transactions are for 15-year terms.

NIH will be locating several mission-critical divisions in its 135,000 square feet on the four-building, 282,000-square foot campus, including the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences. Also to be housed in the building, located at 9800 Medical Center Dr., will be the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development and the National Institute of Drug Abuse. NCATS will occupy approximately 80% of the NIH's 135,000 square feet.

Alexandria's 9800 Medical Center Drive campus also is home to such tenants as Canon U.S. Life Sciences, Institute Merieux, Sanaria, Sigma-Aldrich Corp., and the Stanley Medical Research Institute.
