ALAMEDA, CA-The developer that has proposed an 80-home subdivision at a county club site in Alameda, already has a back-up plan if the proposal is denied.
Harbor Bay Isle Associates say it could instead develop a 212-room hotel and conference center, plus a restaurant and a fitness center, according to a report by The Alamedan, a local newspaper and news site. Specifics of the alternative plan were contained in a letter the Harbor Bay Isle Associates submitted to the city last week.
The potential environmental impacts of the hotel proposal will be studied as an alternative to the 80 homes Harbor Bay Isle Associates has been seeking permission to build on the nine-acre club site, at 200 Packet Landing Road. In addition to the homes, the developer has proposed building a new fitness club on an undeveloped North Loop Road property in the Harbor Bay Business Park.
The letter outlines a proposal to build a hotel with guestrooms in connected low-rise buildings, alongside at 9,500-square-foot conference center that could hold meeting rooms and common areas. The property could also hold a two-story, 8,000-square-foot restaurant with banquet facilities and a full bar and a 3,000-square-foot fitness center with an outdoor pool and a pair of tennis courts, and parking.
