MIAMI—Armando Codina is stepping down from the commercial real estate firm that bears his name. He will hand the CEO reigns over to his daughter, Ana-Marie Codina Barlick.
Codina Barlick previously served as managing director of the firm. Codina will maintain his role as executive chairman of the company.
“Ana's foresight, tireless work and overall dedication to the community is a large part of why Codina Partners has grown to where it is today, and will continue to prosper,” says Codina. “It is the duty of every CEO to develop capable leadership and plan for an orderly succession. In appointing Ana CEO I'm doing just that, and needless to say I am quite proud.”
Codina Barlick, who brings nearly two decades of real estate business experience to the CEO post, founded Codina in 2010 alongside her father. Originally formed as a family real estate investment office with the intent to invest in distressed bonds, mortgages and other real estate-related instruments, the company now oversees a real estate investment portfolio of more than $1.35 billion, and has become one of the largest builder-developers in Florida with projects like Downtown Doral and Monterra in Cooper City, FL to its credit.
As CEO of the firm, Codina Barlick will oversee all investment, development and construction activities. She will also be responsible for managing and maintaining relationships with the company's partners.
Prior to forming Codina, she spent more than five years at Flagler Development, where she served as project manager of Downtown Doral, the firm's first major mixed-use, infill development project and an asset that was maintained when Codina was created. With Ana's guidance Downtown Doral has been transformed from a decades-old suburban office park and gray field into a landmark mixed-use development providing a new urban center for the City of Doral with 2,840 residential units, 180,000 square feet of retail, more than one million square feet of commercial space—partially completed and occupied—an elementary school and a public park featuring a signature pavilion by world renowned artist Michele Oka Doner.
"I've had the pleasure of working with Ana on Downtown Doral since 2004, a development that is a true testament to her ability to spot South Florida's untapped potential and deliver projects of distinction,” says Scott MacDonald, managing director, JP Morgan Asset Management. Earlier in her career while completing her masters of business administration degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Sloan School of Management, she served as research associate for The Staubach Company and lease analyst with Tishman Speyer Properties. A civic leader, Codina Barlick served as president of Miami City Ballet from 2009 to 2011 and continues to serve as the ballet company's chairman.
"Ana truly brings out the best in our community," says Alberto Ibarg en, president and CEO, John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. “She was Instrumental in the transformation of the Miami City Ballet. She helped improve the company's financial condition, evolve its board leadership and led the recruitment effort which brought internationally celebrated dancer and director Lourdes Lopez back home to lead the company. In Doral, Ana was equally thoughtful and insightful in her choice to commission work by Miami-born and world-class artist Michele Oka Doner.”
