WASHINGTON, DC-The nearly 15-acre parcel in Northeast Washington where retailer Walmart had planned for three years to build a new store is on the market for sale.
The Schaeffer family, owner of a local taxi company, is the owner of the 14.73-acre parcel at 1801 New York Ave. NE. The family has recently hired brokerage firm Transwestern to market the property, according to the Washington Post.
Developer Rick Walker had signed a contract to build a retail complex anchored by Walmart at the property, but the deal expired last year. Earlier, a plan to build a large-scale residential and retail complex on the property fell apart due to the recession. See story in the Washington Post.
