WASHINGTON, DC-Weeks after it moved into its new headquarters at 2000 M St., NW, the American Forest Foundation has announced it has secured the second-highest Green Globes rating for its office design and retrofit. AFF tapped the Green Globes program to assess its new office in seven categories: energy, water, materials and resources, emissions, indoor environment, site and project management. It wound up earning three Green Globes out of a possible four.

The 11,000-square-foot space uses wood certified through the Sustainable Forestry Initiative, a North American forest certification standard supported by Green Globes. Also, AFF was able to re-use many elements that might otherwise have gone to a landfill. The Bill London Design Group designed the office, which was built by Regency Commercial Construction, both of which are locally based.

"It's a home for everyone who cares for forests," said AFF CEO and President Tom Martin, in a prepared statement.

Eric West and Ganon Rich of West, Lane & Schlager represented AFF in the 10,984-square-foot lease expansion and relocation deal last year, securing a 12-year, eight-month lease for the group. AFF moved into the space on December 1, 2013, leaving the 7,887-square-foot office it occupied at 1111 19th St. NW.
