NEW YORK CITY-Although there are proposals already submitted for Long Island College Hospital, including one that would transform its Cobble Hill campus into a full-service facility, the State University of New York has reopened the bidding process for a new operator of LICH.

SUNY has informed respondents to the original request for proposal issued on July 17, 2013 that they can now submit their best and final offer by Feb. 3, according to Crain's New York Business.

SUNY's decision to allow best and final offers for the Brooklyn-based hospital has been criticized by some community groups and politicians.

New York State Nurses Association Executive Director Jill Furillo states, “NYSNA is committed to preserving vital hospital services at LICH. We think that the decision by SUNY to reopen the RFP process is a step in the right direction but we are concerned that…SUNY is not offering a process with a realistic time frame or one which will afford all potential hospital operators a meaningful opportunity to submit viable proposals that respond to the health care needs of the community."
