FAIRFAX, VA-The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors approved a revised master plan for Reston that could possibly double the development potential there.

The board, in a 6-2 vote, adopted the revised Reston Master Plan, an amendment to the 6,700-acre Reston blueprint drafted more than 50 years ago. The plan potentially could more than double the amount of development in Reston over the next 25-30 years, according to the Washington Business Journal.

The plan allows for the construction of 22,000 new residential units, nearly 9 million square feet of new office space, 2.2 million square feet of new hotel space and 700,000 square feet of added retail. The plan reduces industrial space in Reston by approximately 300,000 square feet. See story in the Washington Business Journal.
