MIAMI-After nearly 10 years of fits and starts, the city of Miami Beach has begun the process once again to revitalize its convention center here.
The Miami Beach Board of Commissioners began the process on Wednesday by agreeing to solicit bids from design professionals for the convention center project, according to the Miami Herald.
The commissioners intend to eventually hire a contractor via the "design-build" process that would have the winning bidder plan and build the project.
"The major players, the kind of companies that could do this, are interested," City Manager Jimmy Morales said of the design firm solicitation.
The city intends to ink a contract with a design professional by the end of June of this year, and have a design-build team agreement finalized by the end of July 2015. See story in the Miami Herald.
