ROCKVILLE, MD-Federal, state and Montgomery County governments will spend a combined $24 million to expand the National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence here.

Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley and U.S. Sen. Barbara A. Mikulski announced the funding for the expansion on Tuesday. The National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence will eventually relocate from its current 7,000 square-foot space in Rockville to a new 65,000-square-foot facility across town, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Gov. O'Malley, who says the initiative is geared to making Maryland "the epicenter of cybersecurity," notes the new facility will encourage investment in the state's economy.

The federal government will pay $15 million for the expansion. The state and Montgomery County will pay $4.5 million each for the project. See story in the Baltimore Sun.
