MIAMI-Santa Monica, CA-based hedge fund Universa Investments is moving its headquarters to Miami.
The relocation was announced on Wednesday by the Miami Downtown Development Authority. Officials with the authority note that Universa was the first firm to take advantage of the city's tax and business friendly policies that have been touted in the authority's ongoing campaign to lure financial firms to the city, according to the Miami Herald.
"This was the first of many groups we spoke with. We are optimistic this will be the first of many great announcements," says Nitin Motwani, managing principal at Miami World Center and a DDA board member.
Universa plans to move into offices in Coconut Grove and expand its workforce to 25 employees from 14 over the next three years.
Mark Spitznagel, founder and CIO of Universa, states, "Florida's business-friendly policies, which are so different from California's, offer the perfect environment for us as we expand." See story in the Miami Herald.
