MIRAMAR, FL-Broward College and Florida International University staged a groundbreaking on Tuesday for its new 89,000-square-foot joint use facility.
The new FIU at I-75 is a four-story state-of-the art building at 1930 S.W. 145th Ave. designed by Perkins + Will and is being built by Kaufman Lynn Construction. The facility is scheduled to open in the fall will be LEED-certified and will feature classrooms, science labs, meeting spaces and student commons. A student common area and dining facilities on the first floor will be shared by both institutions.

"FIU plays an important role in our community's economic development, as we prepare our students to take good jobs and to create good jobs. We look forward to this new partnership that will benefit students along the 1-75 corridor for years to come."
Broward College's offerings at the new building will focus on business, supply chain management, global trade and logistics. FIU's offerings are similar to the current offering at the Pines Center, which will move to Miramar at the end of the summer, and will feature undergraduate programs in liberal arts, business and construction management and graduate programs in business, engineering, education and public administration. Certification/non-degree programs, test preparation and languages also will be available.
