SAN FRANCISCO—Equity Residential has brokenground on Potrero, a 453-unit apartmentcomplex with a one-acre park located at Seventhand 16th streets.

Jim Kelly, the firm's first vice president ofdevelopment says the project will help re-envision urban living inthe south of Market submarket.

Along with 453 residences and 26,000 SF ofneighborhood-serving retail, the community willalso include a clubhouse, pool and swim spa, an expansive rooftopdeck with incredible views, a fitness enter, a pet spa and its ownone-acre onsite park.

“Given that outdoor park space is a coveted commodity in anyurban environment, we're working with the City to deliver a oneacre park, that will not only be a great amenity for the residentswithin our development, but will also be a great addition for theentire Potrero neighborhood to enjoy,” Kelly said. “In terms of ourspecific development, we've also designed numerous additional areasto enable outdoor enjoyment including barbeque areas and bikefacilities. We have been working with residents and listening towhat they want to see in this next generation of apartment living,and we're doing our utmost to incorporate these concepts into ournew developments.”

According to Potrero's architect, DavidBaker of David Baker Architects, “This design supports thenew housing with wonderful flexible, creative, and open greenspaces. Such active features as a pedestrian mews, street-levellive-work units, and neighborhood-serving retail connect it to theexisting area in an inviting way. The building will set the stagefor a new community, integrating residential and small-industrialmaker spaces into this urban mixed-use zone.”

Scheduled for completion in 2016, Potrero hasan estimated construction cost of $224million.
