IRVINE, CA—The buzz in the retailleasing and development world isall about grocery-store consolidation and creating places forpeople to gather, socialize and be entertained, JimAuther, SVP of Coldwell Banker CommercialAlliance here, tells GlobeSt.com. These two trends, alongwith the impact of e-commerce onbrick-and-mortar shops, are redefining the retailarena, particularly in Orange County, he says.

“In the Orange County market, one of the interestingdevelopments coming up is the Safeway/Albertsonsmerger, which includes Vons andPavilions stores,” says Auther. “It will beinteresting to see which stores stay open and which areclosing.”

As GlobeSt.com reported earlier this month, the Orange County officeof CBCA hired veteran brokerAuther as SVP. Auther has more than 35 years ofexperience in retail brokerage and developmentwith a focus on landlord and tenant representation.
