ATLANTA—Among CORFAC International's topcommercial transactions in April was its work representing thebuyer of the shuttered Shannon Mall in the Atlantasuburb of Union City, GA.

Sim F. Doughtie, SIOR, CCIM, MCR, SLCR andpresident of King Industrial Realty/CORFACInternational represented Rooker, anAtlanta-based developer, in the acquisition of Shannon Mall, a90-acre shuttered shopping center in the Atlanta suburb of UnionCity. Rooker plans to demolish the mall and build up to 1.2 millionsquare feet of warehouse, distribution and logistics facilitiesthat will target e-commerce occupiers, company officials say.

The deal was conceived and engineered by Doughtie, who firstapproached Union City Mayor Vince Williams (before Williams becamemayor) with the idea, pointing out that e-commerce centers generatenew higher paying jobs. Williams embraced the idea enthusiasticallyand worked with Union City officials to get zoning changed fromretail to commercial to enable the sale, CORFAC officialsstate.
