MIAMI—Amistad Apartments, an 89-unit apartment building one block off Calle Ocho in Miami, has opened. The $24 million affordable housing development is a partnership between Carrfour Supportive Housing and Pinnacle Housing Group.

Located in Miami's historic Little Havana neighborhood at Southwest 9th Street, the affordable housing community includes units for both formerly homeless and low-income residents. Amistad marks Carrfour's and Pinnacle's third affordable housing development in the Little Havana area.

“The demand for affordable housing in Miami is at an all-time high right now, as land prices and rents continue to skyrocket,” says Stephanie Berman, president of Carrfour. “Amistad will provide affordable, permanent homes for members of our community who need it most.”

Forty five of Amistad's units are for formerly homeless families transitioning from life on the streets. The other 44 units are earmarked for people earning at or below 60% of the area median income. More than 1,500 resident applications flooded a lottery drawing held earlier this year, reinforcing the need for affordable housing in Miami-Dade County.

A lottery drawing held earlier this year received an overwhelming response of more than 1,500 resident applications, a sign of the desperate need for affordable housing in Miami-Dade County.

“Pinnacle and Carrfour are doing a lot more than building affordable apartments in Little Havana. We're putting people in position to turn their lives around,” says Louis Wolfson III, one of the founding partners of Pinnacle. “Amistad's central location just outside Downtown Miami means residents will have direct access to South Florida's largest employment centers and a number of public transit options nearby.”

Units range in size from one to three-bedroom apartments. The affordable housing complex has a fitness center, library, multi-purpose community center, barbeque grilling area, children's playground and game center. The community also offers a variety of supportive services aimed at helping residents achieve independence.

Amistad is blocks away from Downtown Miami and the Brickell Financial District, and close to Miami's major employment centers, including Miami-Dade County's Government Center, the Main Public Library, the Metrorail Station, and a host of other city, county, and federal government offices. Nearby transportation options include Miami Trolley, Metromover and Metrorail.
