SAN DIEGO—Lowe Enterprises and AECOMCapital have formed a joint venture with long-timeproperty owner Atlas Hotels, Inc. to own, operateand reposition the Town and Country Resort & ConventionCenter in the Mission Valley area of SanDiego. Lowe's hospitality management subsidiary,Destination Hotels & Resorts, has assumedmanagement of the 954-room resort located at 500Hotel Circle North.

“Town and Country is centrally located to San Diego's topattractions and just minutes from downtown with its array ofrestaurants and entertainment. It presents an exceptionalopportunity to work together with Atlas Hotels to refresh andreposition the property to take full advantage of San Diego'scontinually growing tourism and meeting business,” saidRobert Lowe, Jr., co-president of LoweEnterprises.

Located in the popular Mission Valley area, the hotel's twotowers and three swimming pools, award-winning rosegardens, numerous fountains and outdoor seating areas arespread across the 40-acre property.

“This is an opportunity to invest in an established resortproperty in one of the country's premier visitor destinations. Witha strategic capital-improvement program, we can enhance the appealand increase the value of this expansive property,” saidJohn Livingston, chief executive of AECOMCapital.

The resort boasts the largest conventionfacility in the San Diego area outside of downtown, withmore than 200,000 square feet of flexible meetingspace, including the 41,000-square-foot Grand ExhibitHall, and more than 50,000 square feet of outdoor event space. Inaddition, the property offers abundant recreation and diningoptions with the 14,000-square-foot Bella Tosca DaySpa with fitness center and three restaurants.

Built in 1953 by the late Charlie Brown,founder of Atlas Hotels Inc., the Town and Country Resort isimmediately adjacent to the 27-hole Riverwalk GolfClub, San Diego's premier shopping center, FashionValley and a San Diego trolley light railstop, providing easy access to San Diego sites and attractions. Theproperty is five miles from the beach and 15 minutes from downtownSan Diego.

“Over the next few months we will be finalizing a long-term planfor the property that will include new marketing initiatives aswell as physical property improvements,” noted JamieSabatier, president of Destination Hotels &Resorts, the new manager of the Resort. Destination willbring its institutional operations experience to the management ofthe property while its national sales and marketing force will seekto expand both group and leisure business, Sabatier said.

The new ownership group will immediately begin developing andimplementing a program of property-wide infrastructure upgrades andcreating a new long-term vision for the property.
