SAN JOSE, CA—City officials have approved a new land-use guide for the 250-acre area centered on Diridon Station, the city's biggest transit hub. Approval was expected earlier this month, but council members delayed taking action until this week to go over some last-minute changes, according to a report in the Silicon Valley Business Journal.

The guide is expected to have a major long-term impact on the area, which is near San Jose's downtown.

The outsized plan envisions up to 4.96 million square feet of office/R&D/industrial space, 424,000 square feet of retail, 2,600 residential units and 900 hotel rooms within its boundaries. The area includes SAP Center and a parcel of land that could be used for the development of a major league baseball stadium.
