CHICAGO—DTZ, a leading global property services firm, has appointed Brett Soloway as global general counsel.

As a member of DTZ's global leadership team based in Chicago, Soloway will oversee DTZ's worldwide legal activities. He also will play a critical role in the development and implementation of DTZ's overall governance and risk management practices and will report directly to Tod Lickerman, DTZ global chief executive officer.

In his new role, Soloway will be responsible for developing and leading DTZ's corporate legal strategy to promote and protect its interests globally. He will provide independent counsel on legal and business matters, and manage the delivery of all legal services in a wide range of areas including regulatory compliance, transactions, risk management, employment law, and litigation. He also will have functional oversight of the regional legal teams covering the Americas, EMEA, North Asia and Asia Pacific.

Soloway has more than 20 years of experience managing legal operations for retail and development companies. He joins DTZ from Home Depot, where he led an international team responsible for all legal matters relating to development, operations, as well as property management activities for more than 2,500 stores, distribution centers, and offices in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, China, and India. Soloway managed transactional, environmental, litigation, regulatory and other specialty legal work, including work on M&A transactions, logistics/supply chain concerns, construction and facility maintenance issues, legal compliance, and regulatory matters. His expertise includes EH&S and OSHA matters; energy agreements and Renewable Energy Credit projects, loss prevention and asset protection activities; and direct interaction with federal, state and local regulatory agencies. A member of the Illinois State Bar, Soloway received his AB with distinction in Political Science from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan. He earned his JD cum laude at the University of Illinois College of Law in Champaign, IL.

“Brett brings a wealth of experience from outside our industry to DTZ and he will be instrumental in helping administer and manage the company,” commented Lickerman. “He is a formidable professional and fits in well with the senior team. We are delighted to have Brett on board.”
