BRIGHTON, UK—Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. isproviding design, engineering and project management services forthe Brighton i360, a unique visitor attraction nowbeing built on the Brighton seafront in the UnitedKingdom.

Jacobs, based in Pasadena, CA, was part of theteam that designed and built the London Eye,Europe's tallest observation wheel and still the UK's most popularpaid-for visitor attraction 14 years after opening on the banks ofthe River Thames.

Now that same team of architects, engineers andcontractors is reunited to create the Brightoni360, a 540-foot-tall tower with a movingpassenger pod that travels up the tower to a height ofmore than 450 feet, providing 360 degree views.

Under the terms of the contract, Jacobs is providing engineeringdesign, project management, construction design management (CDM)coordination, and inspection body services.

In making the announcement, Jacobs Group vice presidentBob Duff stated, “We are very pleased to be backworking with this creative and highly skilled team to deliver theBrighton i360. We look forward to leveraging our global engineeringdesign and project management experience to deliver innovation andvalue on this project, which is expected to result in a trulyunique and inspiring tourism experience in Brighton.”

Jacobs designed the engineering structure for the project; ineffect, a vertical cable car on a large scale. The i360 passengerpod is 59 feet in diameter with a capacity of up to 200 people. Theslender 540-foot-tall attraction is the first ofits kind and once completed, the tallest visitor observationattraction in the UK outside of London.
