ALEXANDRIA, VA—The American Counseling Association has signed a lease with an 11-year term for space on the sixth and seventh floors at 6101 Stevenson Ave. here. The association is taking 21,723 square feet in the building, which is owned by Matan Cos., and plans to move in at the end of the year after renovations are complete.

Matan has owned the seven-story, 75,023 square foot project since 2000. It will embark on a capital improvement and upgrade program to the building over the next two years, including the addition of a new 62 seat conference center, renovations to the lobby and bathrooms, renovated elevator cabs, a new building entrance, and building façade upgrades. "With the building improvements, neighboring redevelopment efforts, and its proximity to major amenities, 6101 Stevenson Avenue is an attractive option for tenants in the I-395 submarket," says JP Matan, director of leasing for the company, in a prepared statement.

ACA was represented by Mindy Saffer and Lucy Wadeson of Cresa, and Eric West of West, Lane and Schlager. ACA selected 6101 Stevenson Avenue in part because the conference room reduces its rentable square feet requirement, Saffer says.
