HYATTSVILLE, MD—Echo Realty and TheBernstein Cos. have broken ground on The Gateway at University TownCenter, a 3.5-acre grocery-anchored mixed-use project herethat will be anchored by a 54,400-square foot Safeway supermarket.There will also be an additional 29,000 square feet of retail andmedical office use.
The project is located at the intersection of East-West Highwayand America Boulevard. It will serve as a "front door" toUniversity Town Center, a sprawling development inwhich Bernstein Cos, is active and that is home to more than 1.5million square feet of office, two residential condominium towers,one 900-bed student housing tower and approximately 125,000 squarefeet of retail space anchored by a 67,500 square foot RegalCinema.
Other tenants in the two-story The Gateway at University TownCenter include 10,000 square feet of a soon-to-be-announced medicalcenter. Also, a 9,000 square foot two-story building will houseUnleashed by Petco at street level and Phenix Salon on the secondlevel.
