DALLAS–Klyde Warren Park, the freeway surfing upper-deck park in downtown Dallas, has earned LEED Gold certification in the New Construction category from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).
“Sustainability is part of Klyde Warren Park's DNA and was a critical piece of every decision during the design and construction phase, as well as our current operations,” said Tara Green, president of Klyde Warren Park. “This certification marks another great milestone for Klyde Warren Park, and we are very proud to join many of our LEED-certified neighbors with this award.”
The 5.2-acre park contains a host of sustainable features, including solar panels, high-efficiency glass, a geothermal cooling system, low water-usage irrigation and LED lighting fixtures.
Environmentally friendly strategies are found throughout the space, from high-efficiency mechanical equipment to low water-use plumbing fixtures to storm-water control and filtering.
The design and construction team involved in the LEED certification of the park includes Bjerke Management Solutions, WARE Architecture Studio, Henderson Engineers Inc., Thomas Phifer and Partners, The Office of James Burnett, Jacobs Engineering, McCarthy Building Companies Inc., Schmidt & Stacy Consulting Engineers Inc., and The Johnson Studios.
The park is also a finalist in Urban Land Institute's Urban Open Space Award, which celebrates successful public destinations that have revitalized their surrounding communities.
