SAN FRANCISCO—Energy management software firmBuildingIQ, says that its technology has beenchosen by the U.S. General Services Administration(GSA) for its Green Proving Ground Program.Spurred by Executive Order 13514, the Green Proving Ground Programaims to help government buildings move one step closer tonet-zero-energy classification and meet targeted sustainabilitygoals. BuildingIQ was selected for its proprietaryPredictive Energy Optimization software, whichreduces commercial energy costs—due to heating, ventilation and airconditioning (HVAC) operations—by as much as25%.

GSA will implement BuildingIQ'sSoftware-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution, through theGreen Proving Ground Program, at its Jacksonville,FL, and Dayton, OH, host sites in orderto evaluate the technology in a real-world context. For eachbuilding the software will automatically create a customizedthermal model that can predict energy consumption, cost and comfortbased on building characteristics, weather forecasts, energypricing, tariffs, and demand response signals. The intelligentsoftware will minimize both peak and ongoing energy consumption inthese buildings by making real-time adjustments to buildingcontrols.

Savings results from BuildingIQ's energy management platformwill be documented and published in project reports outlining thesoftware's performance during the tenure of the program. The GSA isworking closely with the Department of Energy's CommercialBuildings Integration program to use these results toincrease market uptake of technologies that prove to have a highimpact through the Green Proving Ground Program.
