WASHINGTON, DC—Roadside Development bested a host of other bidders to acquire and rebuild the Frager's Hardware property that was gutted by fire in June 2013.

Frager's had been based at 1101-1117 Pennsylvania Ave. on Capitol Hill since 1920, but has operated out of three Capitol Hill locations since the fire. When the rebuild is completed, the retailer will bring back its hardware, paint, garden center and equipment rental businesses to its long-standing location under a long-term lease, according to the Washington Business Journal.

Part of the rebuild will be adding some floors to the original footprint for residential use. Colliers International was retained by Frager's owner John Weintrab to manage the redevelopment solicitation. Roadside was selected based largely on its rebuild of CityMarket at O in Shaw.
