ASHBURN, VA—DuPont Fabros Technology has opened the doors to its sixth data center at the 1.6-million-square foot Ashburn corporate campus, ACC7. At 446,000 square feet and capable of delivering 41.6 megawatts of critical power when fully developed, it is one of the largest multi-tenant data centers in North America, the REIT says—and the largest in its portfolio.
More to the point for users, it is offering some of the lowest operating costs in the local market, which has a wealth of data center offerings.
Statements made during the REIT's latest earnings call in July put ACC7's operating costs at $17 to $18 a kilowatt per month. "Our operating expenses are actually lower than what we originally projected," CEO Hossein Fateh said during the call.
DuPont Fabros also received a sales tax exemption for the Ashburn corporate campus, which gives its users tax savings on computer server equipment.
Earlier this year, the REIT signed its first pre-lease for 2 megawatts of critical load in ACC7, during the July earnings call--a 12-year term with a "rapidly growing company, a great new logo for DFT." The tenant appears to fit the model for ACC7 – that is, it is the perfect site for 2 to 6 or 7 megawatt customers, Fateh said.
