UNION CITY, CA—In response to the growing need for specialized food distribution spaces, Westcore Properties has completed a 12-year lease agreement with The Chefs' Warehouse for a 119,000-square-foot industrial property here.

The building, located at 1250 Whipple Road was originally built in 1974 and expanded in 1989. Westcore acquired the property in 2014 and will be completing improvements to accommodate the new tenant.  Past tenants included Dreyers Ice Cream and Besco. The Chefs' Warehouse, a fine food distribution company, will begin occupying the building in March 2015.

“Consumers' busy lifestyles and high demand for fresh food is driving demand for commercial real estate near California's urban areas,” said Don Ankeny, president and CEO of Westcore Properties. “We are proud to be at the forefront of this unique trend and are delighted to work with companies like The Chefs' Warehouse to establish food-grade warehouses that are critical components in the food storage chain between farm and table.”

Greig Lagomasino and Nick Ousman of Colliers International represented The Chefs' Warehouse West Coast LLC in the transaction. Westcore Properties was represented by Kevin Ahaesy of Avison and Young.

Westcore Properties is a private, entrepreneurial commercial real estate investment firm with a specialized focus in the western United States and key European markets. Its US headquarters is in San Diego.
