PHOENIX—Sunridge HotelGroup broke ground on a Courtyard by Marriott hotel thatwill be located adjacent to Phoenix-Mesa GatewayAirport.

“Courtyard byMarriott is a great addition to the Gateway area and another signof the growing success of southeast Mesa,” Mesa Mayor, and AirportAuthority Board member John Giles says. “Travelersflying in to Gateway for business or pleasure will have aconvenient place to stay with easy freeway access just outside theentrance to the airport.”

The hotel, located onRay Road east of Power Road, is designed for business travelers butwill also accommodate families. All 99 rooms will include adesk and hospitality cabinet with microwaves andrefrigerators. The hotel will also feature a conferencecenter, business center, full-service restaurant, 24-hour“mini-mart” and an outdoor pool and patio area.

“Breaking ground onthis hotel is another important step in the growth of the Gatewayarea,” District 6 Councilmember Scott Somerssays. “The addition of a Marriott property to one of thefastest growing locations in the valley shows the commitment theCity Council has made to making this a destination area in theState of Arizona.”

Courtyard by Marriottis being built by Sunridge Hotel Group, a Mesa-based hospitalitydevelopment and management company. It will be the ninthproperty built by Sunridge in Arizona and the first inMesa.

RichardsonDesign Partnership was selected as the architect andPorter Brothers is the general contractor for thehotel. There is a historical connection involving PorterBrothers. Bill Porter, grandfather of current ownersDennis and Gary Porter, was in charge ofconstruction at Williams Air Force Base, which eventually made asuccessful transition to become Phoenix-Mesa GatewayAirport

The Courtyard byMarriott is scheduled to open in October, 2015.
