SHORT HILLS, NJ—General contractor,construction manager and design builder HollisterConstruction Services is modernizing The PingrySchool's Lower School, an independent coeducational K-5day school in Short Hills, NJ. The Lower Schoolprepares students for the school's Basking Ridge, NJ, campus wherethey continue their education.

“The goal of this modernization project is to promote a higherlevel of learning and teaching. Therefore, this project'semphasis is on creating 'learning neighborhoods,' morecollaborative learning spaces to match the school's curriculumcentered on hands-on experiences,” says KeithLovas, project manager forHollister.

Teamed with Strategic Building Solutions, theowner's representative, and edm, the architect andengineer, Hollister is working on the two-phase,14,000 square foot assignment that represents a new addition withinan existing courtyard space, allowing the school to redesign itsspace to help teachers maximize their students' learningexperience.

The project includes all the foundations, structures andinterior finishes for the new addition as well as a completerefurbishment of the adjacent existing building spaces. Theproject also includes extensive mechanical work, including theaddition of a new chiller and cooling tower as well as raising theexisting roof to become a clerestory.

“Phase two of the construction will include the addition of newclassrooms, a new common student space, two new science classroomswith labs, new bathrooms and exterior stonework,” saysLovas.
