BLOOMFIELD HILLS, MI—American House Senior Living Communities has just acquired the Oak Crest Communities portfolio of senior living communities in Western Michigan. The four sites, located in Holland, Spring Lake, Jenison and Kentwood, have a total of 532 units and include independent living, licensed assisted living and licensed memory care services. The Bloomfield Hills, MI-based company, an affiliate of REDICO, will rebrand the campuses as American House communities. The prices were not disclosed.

As reported in GlobeSt.com, Western Michigan is a solid market for senior living communities. It has a significant number of developments for seniors and serves a population that typically wants to stay close to their families.

“The growth strategy of American House will take us throughout the Midwest, and recently into Florida with new developments in Bonita Springs, Estero and Ft. Myers,” says Dale Watchowski, president and chief executive officer of American House Senior Living Communities and REDICO, a national real estate development and investment company. “However, we want to continue growing in Michigan, our home market.”

And the company has a statewide strategy, Watchowski adds. “In order to facilitate growth outside of Southeast Michigan, our strategy includes recent acquisitions in Charlevoix and Petoskey, in Northern Michigan, and earlier this year we acquired a senior community in Grand Rapids.”

American House now has nearly 40 independent living, assisted living and memory care communities in Michigan and Florida.

American House Holland, American House Spring Lake and American House Jenison feature, respectively, 162, 118 and 192 units. All have independent living, assisted living and memory care apartments. Finally, American House Kentwood features 60 assisted living and memory care apartments in two buildings. The four campuses total about 450,000-square-feet.

“Our decision to move in this direction was done thoughtfully, and with careful consideration to the long-term,” says Chuck Schipper of Oak Crest Communities. “American House has a similar history and commitment to senior care as our family has had over the last 35 years.”
