POMONA, CA—C.W. Driver has completedconstruction of the Bronco Recreation and IntramuralComplex at Cal Poly Pomona. The$45.9-million development will serve as the school's studentcenter. It is a 126,000-square-foot building and has gainedLEED-Silver certification.
The building was designed to be the focal point of the campus.It is a three-story building with a glass, metal and stoneexterior, and houses a several fitness amenities, including athree-court gymnasium, multipurpose activity court, elevatedjogging track, weight and fitness area, racquetball courts,recreation pool with deck area. Additionally, the space includesfive multi-purpose rooms, a wellness center, a social lounge andadministrative space. In the center of the building, a curtainveils an indoor atrium with a 53-foot rock-climbing wall.
C.W. Driver built the property in two phases, which required thedemolition of two pre-existing buildings and a swimming pool. Toachieve LEED certification, the development incorporates severalgreen features. It has Solatube skylights to provide natural lightin the gymnasium area and large skylights that provide naturallight in the atrium.
