IRVINE, CA—There's a lot more to developingmixed-use projects than meets the eye, Simon Perkowitz, principal and head ofKTGY's commercial design studio, tells GlobeSt.comexclusively. Perkowitz believes it is imperative to be forwardthinking when planning these developments.
“Tenants can come and go; therefore, the retailspace needs to have design flexibility to accommodate various typesof businesses,” says Perkowitz. “Integrating the different uses ina mixed-use retail/residential development is partscience, part art. Although retail needs to be recognized as adistinct element, it is important to make sure that the design isintegrated and encompasses the whole building's uses and not as twoseparately designed buildings.”
