AUSTIN, TX—The former headquarters of the Texas Press Association, 718 W. Fifth St. is being demolished this week to make way for a new high-rise condo tower.
The Austin Business Journal says a local firm, Riverside Resources, purchased the property with plans to erect a 39-story condo tower that will be one of the tallest buildings in Austin. Demolition is expected to take about two weeks, and construction will take close to three years.
The general contractor for the new tower will be a joint venture of Gilbane Building Co. and Rogers-O'Brien Construction. Dallas-based GDA Architects will handle the design.
The article notes that for-sale condo units have become scarce in downtown Austin, with better availability of as for-lease apartments.
