ATLANTA—The Atlanta Braves on Wednesday released four new conceptual renderings of the mixed-use development surrounding SunTrust Park. The Braves are the first Major League Baseball team to build a ballpark and a mixed-use development at the same time.

The $400 million mixed-use commercial real estate development will include between 700,000 and 1 million square feet of residential, retail, restaurant, office, and hotel space when it opens in 2017. When you include the stadium, the project stands as one of the largest deals in the Southeast.

The community will span more than 60 contiguous acres of property at the northern intersection of Interstate 75 and Interstate 285 in Atlanta. The just-released renderings offer additional architectural detail, highlight the massing of proposed buildings, showcase the interaction of SunTrust Park and various elements of the mixed-use project, and demonstrate the integration of the project with the surrounding area.

Beyond the hard assets, the project will feature a mix of hardscapes and green spaces. For example, the main plaza that connects SunTrust Park with the rest of the community is designed for public gatherings, including pre- and post-game programming on game days along with non-game day special events and activities.

What's more, over 6,000 shared and dedicated parking spaces are planned right next to the SunTrust Park and within the mixed-use community. Thousands more parking spaces are within walking distance of the ballpark.

The development team, which includes notable Atlanta firms like Pope & Land, Fuqua Development, and Pollack Shores, announced that Wakefield Beasley, an Atlanta-based architectural design firm, will serve as leader designer on the project. Wakefield has designed mixed-use developments throughout the southeast, including The Forum in Norcross, GA, Town Center at Atlantic Station, and Avalon in Alpharetta, GA.
