WASHINGTON, DC—Mayor Vincent Gray and otherdignitaries were on hand Wednesday, along with U.S. Army officialsfor the ceremonial signing of the deed transferring Building 18 atthe former Walter Reed Army Medical Center to the District foradaptive reuse as a new fire station.

Other federal and district officials at the event includedU.S. Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton, AssistantSecretary of the Army Katherine Hammack, Ward 4Councilmember and Mayor-Elect Muriel Bowser.

“This is a momentous occasion, as today's ceremony marks thefirst transfer of land at Walter Reed to the District and clearsthe way for building a vital community benefit for the Ward 4neighborhood,” says Mayor Gray. “My administration has workedclosely with the Army to acquire Walter Reed so that we can begintransforming this historic campus into a vibrant destination thatmeets the needs and desires of the neighboring community.”
