WASHINGTON, DC—EastBanc broke ground on its West End library and fire station project at 2301 L St., NW, before the start of the holiday week.

A rare construction project in this part of town, the development calls for a new 21,000-square-foot library and 7,300 square feet of retail topped by 164 market-rate units and a new fire station. The latter will be topped with 55 affordable housing units and Squash on Fire, a squash facility and full-service restaurants. The library will be topped with 71 condos and 93 rentals. EastBanc began working on this project in 2010 when then Mayor Fenty tapped the company to redevelop the District's West End Library, Police Special Operations Building, and Fire Station.

EastBanc has engaged Enrique Norten of T.E.N. Arquitectos of Mexico City as the architect. Both complexes are being built as a public-private partnership between the District of Columbia, EastBanc, The JBG Cos. and Clark Enterprises.
