PRAIRIE VIEW, Tex.-- Skanska has signed a contract to construct a new football stadium and athletic field house for Prairie View A&M University.

The $53-million project, located about 50 miles northwest of Houston in Prairie View, will include 15,000 seats, coaches' booths, ten sky-box suites, and a radio and television broadcast booth. The existing stadium will be demolished to make way for the new stadium.

“Skanska has significant experience building world class stadiums for both professional and collegiate sports teams,” Brian Freeman, Skanska executive vice president and general manager of Texas, told GlobeSt.com. “We're pleased to be working with Prairie View A&M University on this project and bringing home a win for the Panthers.”

Construction is scheduled to begin this week, with an expected completion of May 2016.

Skanska, a project development and construction group with expertise in construction, development of commercial and residential projects and public-private partnerships, is headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, and has four business units. Skanska USA specializes in building construction.
