MIAMI—The new Walmart at 3200 NW. 79th St in North Miami opened for business after a ribbon-cutting ceremony today.
The new store, open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. seven days a week, has created approximately 300 new jobs consisting of full-time workers and part-time associates. The new 186,000-square-foot store features a broad assortment of groceries and merchandise, along with a full service pharmacy.
Store manager Frank Medina said, “Our new store has been in the works for a long time, and I'm excited to bring Walmart into this area, where it is a needed addition to the retail landscape.”
The grand-opening celebration included presentations of $6,000 in grants from Walmart to local community groups, including Miami Central Senior High, Miami Dade College, and Miami Northside Optimist.
In addition to the grants given as part of the grand opening, the new store will further Walmart's pledge to fight hunger in America, the company states. As part of Walmart's and the Walmart Foundation's $2-billion commitment to fight hunger through 2015, Walmart stores in Florida donated approximately 35.2 million pounds of food, in fiscal year 2014, or the equivalent of 29.3 million meals. Additionally, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation gave more than $66.8 million in fiscal year 2014 in Florida alone.
