COSTA MESA, CA—GlobeSt.com has learned exclusively that Plaza Tower, a 470,000-square-foot, 21-story, class-A office building at 600 Anton Blvd. here, has achieved LEED-Platinum certification for existing multi-tenant buildings in Operations and Maintenance from the US Green Building Council. Platinum is the highest level that can be achieved under the LEED rating system.

The tower, owned by 600 Anton Blvd. Associates, was one of the first multi-tenant buildings in the country to achieve LEED EB O&M Gold certification in 2009. It achieved LEED-Platinum certification for implementing practical and measurable strategies and solutions aimed at achieving high performance in sustainable landscaping, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, recycling and indoor environmental quality.

According to Robert Lambert, director of Cushman & Wakefield, who serves as the listing agent for the landlord along with Rick Kaplan and Brian Booth, “Plaza Tower is honored to be the first multi-tenant building to achieve LEED-Platinum certification for Operations and Maintenance in Orange County. The certification demonstrates the landlord's commitment to being a leader in the protection of the environment and the maintenance of a healthy building.”

The green-building movement offers “an unprecedented opportunity to respond to the most-important challenges of our time, including global climate change, dependence on non-sustainable and expensive sources of energy and threats to human health,” says Rick Fedrizzi, president, CEO and founding chair of the USGBC. “The work of innovative building projects such as Plaza Tower is a fundamental driving force in the green building movement.”

Plaza Tower is one of the region's most-popular buildings for law-firm tenants. As GlobeSt.com reported in June 2014, Haynes and Boone LLP signed a 22,466-square-foot lease at the property, relocating from Irvine Towers to occupy a full floor at building, which is adjacent to South Coast Plaza and the Segerstrom Center for the Arts. Other law tenants include Dorsey and Whitney, Morgan Lewis, Baker & Hostetler and Snell & Wilmer.
