TULSA, Okla.--Brentwood, Tenn.-based GBT Realty Corp. has lined up a third Academy Sports & Outdoors for the Tulsa area.
GBT acquired the 5.8-acre location in the suburb of Owasso on Dec. 30 for $2 million, and now, construction is under way on the $10-million development. The Owasso location will be the eighth Academy store developed by GBT since 2011.
"Through our development partnership with Academy Sports & Outdoors, we strongly feel Owasso is the right location for a third store in the Tulsa market,” Jeff Pape, managing director of GBT's shopping center division, told GlobeSt.com. “Not only will Academy fulfill a need in the market from a consumer standpoint, but the store will also complement other retailers in the area."
The project will follow the retailer's standard 62,000-square-foot prototype; the store is expected to open in August. GBT is also developing an Academy Sports at its Woodland Commons shopping center in Elizabethtown, Ky.
“Academy Sports & Outdoors is extremely active right now, and GBT is proud to be their development partner,” says Pape.
