WASHINGTON, DC—The Armed Forces Retirement Home is reportedly set to launch a campaign to attract a development partner for an 80-acre parcel of its 272-acre campus in Northwest DC.
The plan calls for 4.3 million square feet of development that would include office, medical and retail space, as well as a hotel. The project is larger than the development planned at the former Walter Reed Army Hospital, according to the Washington Post.
If developed, a majority of the home's existing property, including President Abraham Lincoln's summer cottage, will be a tourist attraction.
“It's probably the last great, large tract of land to be developed in D.C.,” says John Gibb of JLL, who is marketing the project for the Armed Forces Retirement Home.
The General Services Administration is overseeing the project and will issue a request for proposals seeking a development partner this month. The GSA hopes to pick a development partner by this fall. See story in the Washington Post.
