DALLAS--Spurred by the December opening of the new Baylor Scott & White hospital in Waxahachie, construction is under way on a 121-bed senior-living center and rehabilitation facility at a nearby 7.6-acre site.
The 60,000-square-foot center is being developed by The Javelin Group of Dallas and will be operated by Legend Healthcare of San Antonio. Located off Highway 77 and north of Highway 287 about seven blocks southeast of the hospital, the facility will be in the heart of a high-growth area surrounded by shops, restaurants and new residential neighborhoods.
“This is a terrific opportunity for The Javelin Group and Legend Healthcare to build upon the momentum that the new Baylor Scott & White hospital has brought to Waxahachie,” Alan Naul, president of The Javelin Group, told GlobeSt.com. “As our population continues to grow older, we believe this top-notch senior living center and rehab facility – with its terrific location near restaurants and shops and just minutes from the hospital – will be a tremendous asset to the region.”
The project is being built by Donica Construction and was designed by Jordan & Associates, with financing provided by Community National Bank and Trust of Corsicana. The center, which is expected to open early next year, is anticipated to create roughly 100 new jobs.
The nursing facility will feature a courtyard design with predominately private resident rooms and will also feature an observation suite, a large therapy gym, multiple dining areas, activity rooms and common living areas.
Legend Healthcare will provide a variety of post-acute care options including inpatient skilled nursing care, therapy and rehabilitation services, hospice and palliative care, and outpatient therapy services.
“The Javelin Group and Legend Healthcare are outstanding organizations that have built or operated dozens of top-notch healthcare facilities here in Texas,” says Doug Barnes, director of economic development for the city of Waxahachie. “We're delighted that they've chosen to expand operations into Waxahachie. They'll be a tremendous asset in helping to build the reputation of our city as a regional medical center.”
